Brasil - Serie C

The Campeonato Brasileiro Série C is the third tier of the Brazilian football league system.

Unlike the first and second divisions, the Série C is not played in a double round robin system, arguably because many participating teams lack the financial conditions to travel long distances. Thus, the tournament is organized in regional groups and the table prevents teams from distant states from playing each other in the initial rounds.

Beginning in 2009, the Série C was reduced from 64 teams to 20 and the new Campeonato Brasileiro Série D is the qualifier for Brazilian league football. In its current format the first phase was then played in a single round, with 19 matches. The top eight teams qualify for a knock out stage and the four semi-finalists are promoted to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B. The four lowest-placed teams are relegated to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série D.

Brasil - Série C er en brasiliansk profesjonell fotballturnering som er det tredje øverste nivået i det brasilianske ligasystemet. Turneringen organiseres av Det brasilianske fotballforbundet (CBF).

Série C ble opprettet i 1995 og har gjennomgått flere endringer i formatet gjennom årene. I dag består turneringen av 20 lag som spiller i to grupper med 10 lag i hver gruppe. De fire beste lagene i hver gruppe går videre til sluttspillet, hvor de kjemper om opprykk til Série B. De to lagene med færrest poeng i hver gruppe rykker ned til Série D.

Série C er en viktig turnering som gir mindre klubber en sjanse til å rykke opp til de høyere divisjonene i brasiliansk fotball. Turneringen har også sett flere spillere som har gått videre til å spille for landslaget og i store europeiske klubber.

Noen av de mest kjente klubbene som har spilt i Série C inkluderer Grêmio, Internacional, Bahia og Botafogo.
